JAKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo warned Transjakarta bus operators to inspect the road worthiness of their buses more carefully following Tuesday’s incident where a bus caught fire on Jl. Kramat Raya in Senen, Central Jakarta.

“There should be a portable fire extinguisher on each bus,” Fauzi said.

The Transjakarta busway management (BLU) said the fire was triggered by a short circuit.

Fauzi said his administration would impose sanctions on operators if they found the short circuit resulted from negligence in regular maintenance proce-dures.
