JAKARTA: After having come under the spotlight for fighting his ex-wife in court, pop-band Ungu vocalist Sigit Purnomo Syamsuddin Said, or Pasha, is now bracing himself for another court case: alleged plagiarism.
Earlier this week, Langit Band accused Pasha of copying its “Dimanakah” (Where) song. The leader of Ungu band responded with a lawsuit, saying that it was the group’s song “Dia Maha Sempurna” (The Most Perfect) that had been plagiarised.
“I’m reporting Agus Triwahyudi, Adi Mulyono Hidayat, Ferdy and Beny Arimurdianto [members of Langit Band] to the police. They claimed that I’ve copied part of their song when in fact it was my work that has been plagiarised,” Pasha said as quoted by entertainment newsportal detikhot.com on Tuesday.
The battle over the originality of the song started later in June, when a now ex-member of Langit Band allegedly took part of Ungu’s song melody and included it in his own composition. Now everyone is finger pointing as to whom has plagiarised whom. One thing they should bear in mind: nothing in the creative world is purely new under the sun.
