Surabaya to develop new `bemo'

SURABAYA: The Surabaya administration said Sunday it would replace the old three-wheeled minivans, locally known as bemo, with environmentally friendly bemo.

"We already have a new design for the bemo," city planning agency head Tri Rismaharini said as quoted by kompas.com.

"The new bemo would have a bigger, air-conditioned space for passengers, while maintaining its three-wheeled design," she said.

"It would use environmentally friendly fuel," she added. - JP
