Former detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji on Monday reported police observer Bambang Widodo Umar to the Central Jakarta Police for alleged defamation.

Susno's lawyer, Johny Situwanda, said the report was related to statements made by the University of Indonesia (UI) lecturer, which were published in Tempo.

In the article, Bambang said the National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri would oppose public will should he pick Susno as his deputy chief. While in the magazine, Bambang highlighted Susno's role in the conspiracy against the antigraft body chairmen.

“Such statements have hurt my client's pride,” Johny said after making the report.

Johny added that he had twice demanded that Bambang clarify his statements and apologize to the public, but to no avail.

“He neither responded nor clarified his statements. That’s why we are reporting him now,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The police eventually chose Comr. Gen. Yusuf Manggabarani as its deputy chief. (ewd)
