Letters: Anand and a taxi driver

A- A A+

I received an SMS recently. One of my friends sent me Merry Christmas greetings. I replied “Thanks, may God bless you with health and wealth, may peace be upon you”.

Actually I am Muslim by religion but I think my friend incorrectly considered me a Christian. No problem and later on he said sorry for wrongly misperceiving me a Christian.

I believe Anand Krishna’s article (The Jakarta Post, Dec. 21) exaggerated the real situation.

The taxi driver, Hassen, considered him as a Muslim, because of his appearance with a long beard and middle eastern appearance. Hassen tried to be nice by explaining everything about Melbourne, especially religious places.

I think, Anand Krishna, if you feel uneasy if someone thinks you incorrectly a Muslim, please say sorry.

We cannot compare Anand Krishna’s understanding with a taxi driver. Almost the same, I cannot compare an ordinary Christian raised man from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with the late Nurcholis Madjid.

Anand is a very famous philosopher. I read many of his books. But I regret he wrongly addressed a man who tried to be nice. Or maybe, Pak Anand’s understanding of religion and human life decreased?

Anand, I really want to discuss with you personally especially your understanding of God for all mankind.

If you are incorrectly perceived as a member of one group or entity, directly address or smile, which one is the best for you and for him.

Many of my friends from India considered me Hindu because of my name. Many of my friends from states considered me Christian, because I easily discussed issues with them.

Please try to find a better example for your topics.
