SEMARANG: The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said Tuesday it believed the population of Central Java would reach 35 million this year, 5 million more than in 2009.

"We'll carry out a census from May 1 to 31 this year," said BPS social statistics division head Diah Utami.

The agency is recruiting 64,148 officers for the census, she added.

Diah said the officers would be deployed to each regency in the province, but added the number of officers per regency would vary based on population. The results of the census will be announced in August. - JP
