New overpass opens in Tangerang

TANGERANG: Trials of a long-awaited overpass on Jl. Gatot Subroto in Cibodas subdistrict, Tangerang, began Tuesday after construction work was completed the day before.

"With the use of the new overpass, motorists will no longer be inconvenienced by the flood and congestion point, especially during the rainy season," Aimar, a public minivan driver told The Jakarta Post.

The construction of the Rp 24.6 billion 800-meter overpass was financed by the 2009 state budget.

A section of Jl. Gatot Subroto directly beneath the overpass is always inundated by overflow from the Sabi River in the rainy season so traffic in Tangerang municipality heading to and from Serang is frequently disrupted.

The Tangerang municipal administration had received many complaints over the issue. - JP
