SEMARANG: Officials in regency and mayoralty administrations across Central Java allegedly appropriated fees from Bank Jateng between 2002 and 2005 worth a total of Rp 38 billion (US$3.9 million), bank president director Haryono said Tuesday.

The amount is less than the Rp 51 billion highlighted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Haryono said the bank no longer charged fees to officials after Bank Indonesia issued a memo in 2006 banning the practice. - JP
