LEADPARA>JAKARTA: Aswi Narnih attempted to commit suicide Tuesday morning by jumping from the Prumpung overpass, East Jakarta.
She did not die in the fall and instead suffered bruises and broken bones in both hands. She was taken to Persahabatan Hospital in East Jakarta.
"She said she was going out to exercise this morning. But half an hour later, I heard she fell from the overpass," Ayis the father was quoted as saying by news portal beritajakarta.com.
He said he was shocked by his daughter's act.
Ayis said Aswi had been unemployed for two years after graduating from high school.
"She always complained of the difficulty of finding a job," he said.
Ayis said the disappointment of not getting a job had turned his daughter into an introvert.
A witness, Nelly, said she saw Aswi, who wore a yellow T-shirt and shorts that morning, buy a bottle of mineral water from a nearby vendor.
"She went directly to the overpass afterwards," Nelly said. - JP
