JAKARTA: Members of a church congregation in Bekasi said they would hold their upcoming Sunday services on a street should local residents once again ban them from running religious activity.
Filadelfia Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) church official Tigor Tampubolon said as of Wednesday night he received no information about whether local residents had reached an agreement to allow or continue banning them from using the place.
"If they don't allow us to run masses, it is almost certain that we will run Sunday service on the street near the land," Tigor told The Jakarta Post.
On Sunday, more than 100 members of the HKBP church, located in Tambun Utara, Bekasi, held their Sunday service in Jejalen subdistrict hall after hundreds of locals blocked the road to their church, under construction.
Tigor said the subdistrict head would run this week a public dialogue with the residents to decide whether they would allow the congregation to continue the church construction. -JP
