JAKARTA: The city police has been granted Rp 100 billion (US$10.8 million) from the state budget to continue the construction of a high-rise building at its headquarters compound.
"This is a multi-year project, which is not a priority because we still have more important things to finance," the police's spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said Wednesday. He said the Rp 100 billion fund was expected to be disbursed in April at the latest. As of 2009, the police had used Rp 110 billion from the total cost of Rp 340 billion.
The 24-story building, a construction that began in 2004, was expected to finish in 2011 and will be the office for the city police chief and his subordinates.
Boy said the current main building, built in the 1960s, would be maintained because it had historical value. While the building of the public division officers located next to the construction would likely be torn down to become a parking area or park, he said. -JP
