Bali journalists pray for Gus Dur

DENPASAR: Dozens of journalists together with a community and inter-religious leader performed a joint prayer for the late Abdurrahman Wahid, popularly known as Gus Dur, on Wednesday night.

Organized by the Bali chapter of the Alliance of Independent Journalists, the prayer was led by Priest Ricardo from Lembah Pujian Church in Denpasar.

Gus Indra Udayana from Ashram Gandhi stated that Gus Dur was a respected leader. "He was an extraordinary figure who embraced people from different religions and walks of life," Udayana said.

"He deserves to be named a National Hero since he was a real hero for us," noted Rofiki Hasan, head of the alliance's Bali chapter. - J P
