Imported Australian logs demolished

SEMARANG: The Tanjung Emas Port Plant Quarantine Center in Semarang on Thursday destroyed 5.7 cubic meters of Australian processed logs, citing the absence of relevant health documents.

The head of the quarantine center, Musyaffak Fauzi, said the blackbutt eucalyptus logs were destroyed because they lacked phytosanitary certificates from the country of origin.

Fauzi said this type of wood could harbor and spread pests which could threaten indigenous plants.

The logs, which belonged to furniture company PT Maratea, were cut into pieces before being incinerated. - JP
