KPK warns Anggodo to comply with summons

Anggodo Widjojo, the younger brother of fugitive corruption suspect Anggoro Widjojo who was allegedly involved in a Rp 5.1 billion (US$550,000) bribery case and ignored a summons to appear for questioning by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has been warned by the antigraft body that harsher measures would be taken if he didn’t show Friday.

KPK chairman Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean issued the warning after Anggodo failed to show for questioning at the KPK office Thursday.

Anggodo who has been banned from leaving the city from between Dec. 31, 2009 and May 31, 2010, has twice ignored the commission’s summons, saying the President had the police and the Attorney General’s Office stop their investigations into the graft case implicating KPK deputy leaders Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah.

Tumpak said the aborted prosecution of the two KPK leaders’ case was insufficient grounds for Anggodo’s refusal to face questioning.

“He has given his reasons [for not showing], and he has a right to speak his mind. But the investigation into the bribery case will continue,” he said, adding that the commission had several options — including the use of force — to bring Anggodo in for questioning. He said all the options would be discussed later with the investigating team.

Bonaran Situmeang, Anggodo’s legal representative in the case, said his client declined to come to the KPK office to undergo questioning because the President had requested the Bibit and Chandra case be settled out of court.

In relation to wiretapped conversations between Anggodo and National Police and AGO officials that were played at the Constitutional Court last November, Anggodo acknowledged having handed over
Rp 5.1 billion to KPK officials through middleman Ari Muladi in an attempt to have the KPK stop its investigation into the corruption case of telecommunication company PT Masaro, which belongs to older brother Anggoro.

Ary who has been named a suspect in the case, submitted details of his bank accounts to KPK investigators as additional evidence used by the KPK to declare Anggodo the main suspect in this case.

Ary had previously said he gave the money to another middleman, identified as Julianto, expecting him to pass on the money to the KPK leaders. However, Bibit and Chandra denied receiving the bribe.
KPK investigators also questioned two Masaro executives, Sigit Prayogo and Tridarta Dewanto, who were brought in by force when fishing in Ciledug, Tangerang, on Thursday afternoon.

Both were questioned as witnesses in the Masaro case, where significant procurement markups for Forestry Ministry radio communications equipment are alleged to have occurred.
