DENPASAR: Renon post office seized a package containing human skulls to be sent to Hawaii, the United States, on Thursday morning.

On its customs form, the sender had claimed the package contained terracotta handicrafts, but the post office's X-ray examination revealed that the package contained two human skulls wrapped in artificial horns.

The post office's management reported the case to Bali Customs and Excise Office. "We confirmed that the package contained human skulls," office spokesman Bagus Endro Wibowo said.

"The sender may have used false addresses. They may know that sending human skulls is illegal. We don't know whether the skulls were taken from historical sites," he said.

Previously, Renon Post Office had uncovered three trafficking attempts involving human and animal skulls.

"We will work with the Bali archaelogical office," Endro said. Bali is well known for being transit site in the illegal antique trade. - JP
