Dimas obsessed with Puputan war

JAKARTA: Almost every director has two faces: commercial and idealistic. For director Dimas Djayadiningrat, the latter involves an obsession over Bali's famous Puputan war.

"I've been preparing *a movie* on that since 1995," said the director more popularly known as Dimas Jay.

"It's become my obsession," he added as quoted by entertainment news portal detikhot.com.

Fixated with the idea of the struggle of the Balinese against the Dutch colonial masters in Buleleng between 1846 and 1948, Dimas carried out comprehensive research prior to producing and directing the upcoming movie. He collaborated with director Joko Anwar on the script.

One thing that keeps him from starting the production is the clich* hurdle: funding.

"Maybe it'll take another four years for this movie to be released. But who knows, perhaps one day a truck loaded with cash will be delivered to my house and we'll screen it sooner," the 36-year-old director joked. - JP
