Former vice president Jusuf Kalla said Thursday he was never informed by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and then Bank Indonesia governor Boediono about a decision to bail out Bank Century in November 2008.
“There was never any report to me until November 25, 2008, when the bailout decision had already been made,” Kalla told the House of Representatives’ special inquiry committee into the Century case.
At the time the bailout amount was deliberated and decided, Kalla was managing the day-to-day affairs of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who was overseas.
“Every time the President went abroad he issued a decree stating he had handed over his state duties to the vice president,” Kalla said.
Responding to Kalla’s testimony, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician Gayus Lumbuun said Mulyani had violated the regulation for failing to report the bailout plan to Kalla as acting president.
