UII, ministry set up team to save temple

YOGYAKARTA: The Indonesia Islamic University (UII) of Yogyakarta cooperated with the Culture and Tourism Ministry to set up a team to maintain and preserve an ancient temple found recently at the university compound.

The university rector, Edy Suandi Hamid, said the agreement was made during a meeting between him and Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik in Jakarta, on Tuesday.

"The team will maintain and preserve the temple found at the campus," Hamid revealed Thursday.

The temple found the university planned to build a library at the site.

The Yogyakarta Heritage Preservation Center has conducted two excavations and also found a Nandi (cow as vehicle of the gods) statue on the site. - JP
