AKARTA: The Cipinang river will be the last river to connect to the East Flood Canal in the next two days, an official said Friday.
Governor Fauzi Bowo said he had ordered the officials in charge to flow the river after rain fell recently.
"I have asked them to flow the river because the water has been cleaner. The pollution level has decreased because the *dirty* water gets flushed away by rainwater," he said.
The city had not connected the Cipinang River to the canal because Fauzi believed the dirty river would pollute it.
The other four rivers - Sunter, Buaran, Jati Kramat and Cakung, have been earlier connected to the canal.
Head of the Ciliwung-Cisadane Flood Bureau Pitoyo Subandrio confirmed the plan, adding the contractor had been ordered to dig a dike that separated the Cipinang River and the canal.
