The Democratic Party strongly opposes a plan by the House of Representatives Bank Century inquiry committee to summon President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in connection with the Rp 6.7 trillion (US$ 730 million) bailout, an executive says.
Party deputy chairman Ahmad Mubarok said Sunday the planned questioning session was irrelevant to the investigations.
“Testimonies from several witnesses have provided us with more than enough information … If they want more details they should also summon former president Megawati Soekarnoputri because the case began when three small banks united to become Bank Century, in 2001,” Ahmad said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The committee will continue its inquiry, requesting clarification from three witnesses — Presidential Working Unit for Reform Management (UKP3R) chief Marsillam Simanjutak, former tax chief Darmin Nasution and Capital Market and Financial Institutions Supervisory Agency (Bapepam-LK) chief Fuad Rahmany — on Monday.
