The National Police is investigating the possible involvement of bank employees over the recent missing savings of 16 customers in six banks in Denpasar, Bali.
“So far, there are indications that internal people [in the bank] are involved because they know the personal identification numbers [pin] of the customers,” National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi said Thursday.
He added that investigators would work together with the banks to audit their ATM security systems.
“We will also investigate the possible instalments of certain devices at ATM machines to capture perpetrators more easily,” he said as quoted by Antara state news agency.
He said the police suspected the perpetrators were more than one person.
“We will also investigate possible link with international syndicates,” he said.
