Man self-immolates, unrequited love

BANDUNG: Twenty-eight-year-old Rudi Hartono set himself on fire in front of his former girlfriend's house, who was recently engaged to another man, in Bojongloa Kaler in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.

According to tempointeraktif.com, Rudi approached the house of his former girlfriend, Lia Yulianti,30, called her name and poured gasoline from a plastic water bottle onto his body before setting himself on fire at around noon. He suffered burn injuries to his back and was sent to Immanuel Hospital.

Local police chief Adj. Comr. Syarif Hidayat said Rudi had sent a text message to Lia threatening to commit suicide if she left him.

Lia reportedly became engaged to another man Thursday and was said to be married by next week. - JP
