BENOA: Bali still needs to procure fish and other marine products from other islands like Sulawesi, Java and Kalimantan to meet its increasing demands on the commodity.
I Gusti Putu Nuriartha, head of Bali Fishery and Marine Office, explained Bali needed at least 126,000 tons of salt and fresh fish. Local fishermen could only provide 0.3 percent of the total need, he said.
He said the local administration has to help fishermen to improve their productivity. Financial and technical assistance was badly needed to help them increase their yields. - JP
