Hundreds rally against SBY in Makassar

A- A A+

Around 500 people staged a rally in front of the South Sulawesi Legislative Council building in Makassar on Thursday, denouncing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's performance after the first 100 days of his second term in office.

The protesters at the rally, one of many similar rallies staged across the archipelago today, who call themselves the Anti-Corruption People’s Front, said that Yudhoyono had failed in his 100-day program.

They consider Yudhoyono has failed to protect the people from foreign pressures, referring to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) that came into effect earlier this year.

Hundreds of police officers were safeguarding the rally and three water cannon and several armored vehicles could be seen near the rally site.
