SURABAYA: Indonesia is one step away to have Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur to become a national hero, a public officer said Friday.
"A messenger from the Central Hero Advisor Body came and asked us to provide a paper as the last administrative requirement for the endowment of national hero status to Gus Dur," East Java deputy governor Saifullah Yusuf, who is also the head of advisory body of Hero Council in the province was quoted by kompas.com.
"There are a lot of papers on Gus Dur already, but the requirement needs one only, so we have asked Professor Aminuddin Kasdi to compile them," he said.
The paper is one out of four requirements for someone to be named a national hero by the state. Saifullah said the other three had already been fulfilled. - JP
