BANDA ACEH, Aceh: As many as 71 houses in a number of villages in Ketol District, Central Aceh, 300 kilometers from provincial capital Banda Aceh, were damaged by the quake that took place in the mountainous region on Thursday night.
Central Aceh regency spokesperson Windi Darsa said by phone in Banda Aceh on Friday, that the houses had been badly damaged and 56 others were slightly damaged. Two residents in Ketol district sustained injuries from falling debris.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said the 5-magnitude quake struck at 11.12 p.m. local time Thursday and was centered 23 kilometers northwest of Takengon at a depth of 10 kilometers. - JP
