Many soap opera audiences look to have changed their choice of TV program to watch to live broadcast of the House of Representatives’ inquiry hearings of the Bank Century case and other news programs.
A recent survey by AGB Nielsen Media Research released on Saturday revealed that the live shows had given a rise to the number of news TV audiences.
According to the study, conducted in January, the audiences of special news programs, including the live broadcast of the inquiry hearing, surged by 3 percent to 12.6 percent in viewers share.
In comparison, the inauguration ceremony of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in October last year recorded only 10.5 percent in viewers share.
The survey showed the total duration of news programs in January reached 116 hours, 128 percent higher than in the previous month.
Nielsen also found that adult male audience above 40 years old watched special news program for an average of three hours a day, up by 30 percent from the December 2009 mark.
