The chairman of the House of Representatives inquiry committee on the Bank Century case, Idrus Marham from the Golkar Party, said Monday that an impeachment was not a goal but a logical consequence of the committee's findings in its investigation.
"We have no purpose or target at all for an impeachment. We work solely based on facts and findings. If our findings show facts that could implicate someone to lose his or her job or be legally processed, then that it's just the consequence," he told reporters at the House in Jakarta on Monday.
Idrus also said that the committe was fully commited to completing its job by the end of this month.
"If we find that the case might implicate either the president or the vice president, then we will recommend it to be processed by the Constitutional Court. If we find indications of criminal act and corruption, then we will recommend the case to the related law enforcement institution," he said.
The bank bailout of Rp 6.76 trillion is considered scandalous by politicians as it costs ten times higher from its original estimation.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and then Bank Indonsia governor Boediono, now Vice President, took the bailout decision in November 2008 at the height of global financial crisis to prevent the crisis from spreading into the country.
Mulyani and Boediono had said that the president knew about the bailout.
