RI films lack common sense: Lawmaker

A- A A+

Departing from regular political conversation, chairman of the Democratic Party at the House of Representatives Anas Urbaningrum lashed out on Tuesday at national films which he said were profit-oriented at the expense of common sense.

"History shows there is a market for high-quality films," said Anas, who sits in the House’s Commission X for sports, art and culture.

"So even though the demand for horror- and sex-themed movies is high, filmmakers must consider producing better movies for the public."

He was commenting on the rampant production of movies in Indonesia which exploit horror and sex themes. Some of the movies feature porn artists from Japan and some show full-frontal nude scenes.
