PWI to help solve `Berita Kota' lay off dispute

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) said it would help solve a dispute over the laying off of 144 employees from local daily Berita Kota if the former workers withdrew their lawsuit at the Central Jakarta Manpower Agency.

PWI official Torozatulo Mendrofa said Monday night that his association would mediate the meeting between the company's new and old management on Feb. 15 at his office.

"We sympathize with the ex-workers' fate. They used to write about injustice and are *now* experiencing the same thing from their own company," Toro told tempointeraktif.com. - JP
