PALEMBANG: Germany has invited Palembang city administration to assist in a clean air project under the Clean Air for Smaller Cities project, an official said.

Apriadi S. Busri, the city's official in charge of economy and regional development, said the first step in the project would involve monitoring by experts from the German Environment Ministry for the next three years.

"The monitoring will assess what facilities and infrastructures as well as instruments are needed to preserve clean air *in the city*," he said.

Project advisor Roland Haas said air pollution in Palembang has reached high levels due to high population density and heavy traffic. - JP
