Police raided five illegal herbal medicine factories in the Central Java regencies of Banyumas and Cilacap on Thursday.
The detectives arrested WG, 39, and SN, 53, owners of Alam Makassar herbal factory located in Tunjung village, Jatilawang district in Banyumas, and seized various chemical substances, including paracetamol and dexamethason.
Paracetamol is pain reliever and fever reducer, while dexamethason is commonly used to cure burn injuries.
National Police senior detective Brig. Gen. Suhardi Alius said the suspects mixed and repackaged unsold and expired herbs before selling them. The 23 types of illegal herbal medicines were distributed in Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan.
“The factory has generated billions of rupiah in revenue,” Suhardi was quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The police are hunting down another suspect, identified as WST.
