Legislators from the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS) and the Golkar Party vowed on Friday to carry on the investigation into the controversial rescue of Bank Century, saying the irregularities in the case were so visible like an “elephant corpse”.

“The investigation on the case has revealed so many violations. Covering it will be useless. We can find ways to hide a mouse corpse, but this is an elephant corpse,” PKS legislator Achmad Misbakhun said during a discussion at the House of Representatives.

He reiterated his party’s position as one of Democratic Party coalition partners. “We truly respect this coalition but that doesn’t mean that we must follow any order [from Democratic Party],” Misbakhun said.

The PKS politician was backed by his Golkar Party counterpart Azis Syamsuddin.

“Century case is a legal matter that must stay away from politics. I agree with Misbakhun. It’s already like an elephant dead body,” he said.
