Last year almost 300 sex workers joined life-skills training workshops at a rehabilitation center in Kedoya, West Jakarta, an official says.
The women were arrested during operations by public order officers in various parts of the city, said T. Syahrul, an official at Bina Karya Harapan Mulia Social Institution, on Wednesday.
For one in five of them, this was not the first time they had been arrested.
Syahrul also said 16 percent of all of women were between 15 and 19 years of age.
Most were from the Greater Jakarta area (half), followed by West Java (around one-quarter), Central Java (14 percent), areas outside Java (7 percent) and East Java (3 percent).(lnd)
