Democratic Party legislators, Benny Kabur Harman and Ruhut Sitompul, say that Golkar Party Chairman Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie must behave himself in regards to the partnership between the two parties.

“Speaking on behalf of my friend Ruhut here, I must say that Pak Ical must stop looking for excuses and try to cover up his hidden agenda with the Bank Century inquiry committee,” Benny told The Jakarta Post at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“Everyone knows that Pak Ical has a personal grudge with the Finance Minister [Sri Mulyani Indrawati], starting from the suspension of PT Bumi from the Indonesian Stock Exchange to tax evasion problems. So, stop trying to blackmail the government using the committee,” he added.

Ruhut then said that Benny had the power to back up his words, because he possessed the complete data about the tax evasion.

Previously, Ical said that his party would maintain its critical stance in the Bank Century inquiry committee regardless of threats, including the possibility of a tax evasion probe, in any kind.

The committee was established to probe into the bank’s scandalous bailout that ten folded to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) and was authorized by Mulyani and the former Bank Indonesia governor, Boediono, now vice president, in November 2008.

Ical also said that Golkar had never established a coalition with the Democratic Party, only with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Commenting on Ical’s remarks, Ruhut deemed that it was a total nonsense.

“He [Yudhoyono] is our party’s founding father. The President is the Democratic Party and vice versa,” he said.
