JAKARTA: Police have arrested a man who allegedly supplied devices to illegally duplicate credit cards in Indonesia.
"The perpetrator bought the devices at a shopping center in Singapore," National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Edward Aritonang was quoted as saying Tuesday by news portal detik.com.
The suspect was allegedly involved in recent spates of ATM fraud in Bali and Bandung.
The police have arrested dozens of suspects in East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Bali, Yogyakarta and Jakarta for allegedly running separate organized syndicates to carry out banking fraud.
Techniques used by suspects include attaching scanning devices to ATMs that can read electronic data on ATM cards (also known as skimming), setting up fake hotline numbers to gather customer data, including PINs, and selling customer data to other criminals. - JP
