5.6-magnitude quake jolts North Maluku

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Ricther scale shook Ternate, North Maluku, at 3:46 a.m. on Thursday, a state agency has reported. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake struck 113 kilometers off the coast northwest of Ternate regency at 20 kilometers beneath the surface.

The quake did not have the potential to generate a tsunami, the agency said.
