Mulyani: No comment on BI governor position

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati declined to comment Thursday on the speculation that she might be nominated as a candidate for the Bank Indonesia governor post.

"It's just a rumor," she told reporters on the sidelines of a press conference on Indonesia's economy at her office.

"My mind has gone blank because of this rumor," she joked, letting her official answer other questions raised by reporters.

Mulyani is coming under public scrutiny for her role in the Bank Century bailout, which is now being investigated by the House of Representatives.

On Wednesday, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the palace would decide the names of the central bank's governor candidates soon. He declined to state the names.

Asked whether Mulyani’s name was on the list of candidates, Julian simply said: “It could be”.
