Jakarta Police officers arrested six suspects Thursday for allegedly stealing wallets and cellular phones belonging to journalists who were covering the trial of former Corruption Eradication Commission chairman Antasari Azhar in South Jakarta District Court.
To protect the suspects from the anger of the crowd, the police brought them to Jakarta Police headquarters.
"We will question them," Pasar Minggu Police chief Comr. Nurdi Satriaji, the trial security coordinator, said, adding that he believed the suspects were working as one group.
Hundreds of journalists from the national and international media flocked to the court to cover the trial, in which Antasari was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen.
