Tanjungpinang police office in Riau has deployed personnel to secure crime-prone places across the town during the Chinese New Year celebration.
The regional police chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Djoko Rudi, said on Saturday the police had identified 13 places, including temples, shopping centers and seaport, which were considered vulnerable to crimes.
“The security operation started today [Saturday] at 6 p.m. and will end on Monday,” Djoko said as quoted by Antara.
He added around 140 officers were fielded for the operation, which unlike in other major religious celebrations like Idul Fitri and Christmas would not involve the Indonesian Military and public order officers.
"We predict Tanjungpinang will be peaceful, therefore we do not arrange any special security arrangement,” he said.
