Surabaya airport delays all flights

Authorities in Djuanda Airport in have decided to delay all flights departing and arriving in the airport as they have yet to remove a plane stranded on the runway after blowing one of its tires shortly before take-off on Saturday morning.

Firstson Mansyur, spokesman of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, told kompas.com that at least 20 departures and 17 arrivals have been delayed.

“We still have to evacuate the plane and then clean the runway,” he said.

A 144-passenger Batavia Air 737-200, going from Surabaya to Makassar, blew one of its tires shortly before taking off at 9:25 a.m. Saturday. There was no injury in the incident.
