At least 2,000 residents of Baleendah district in the West Java regency of Bandung have been staying in temporary shelters since a flood hit their homes about two weeks ago
Coordinator of the Bandung youth disaster quick response group Dadan Wahidin said Tuesday floodwaters had risen up to two meters following a heavy downpour on Monday.
“The flood in Baleendah has not yet subsided, with around 2,000 people remaining in several shelters. Classes at the Mekarsari state elementary school have been moved to other schools because of the flooding,” Dadan said as quoted by Antara state news agency.
The displaced people have been sheltering at the district administration hall, the Indonesian Youth National Committee building and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle office.
Dadan said some of the displaced people had complained of diarrhea, flu, coughs and skin problems. “Despite the fresh flood, food supplies for the displaced people remain adequate, except for baby food,” Dadan said, adding that the flood victims were in need of clothes, medicines and women’s sanitary napkins.
