Sarjiyo, who was convicted of conspiring, planning and organizing the devastating Oct. 12, 2002 bombings in Bali, has appealed for clemency from the President.
Sarjiyo, alias Sawad, alias Zaenal Abidin, was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2004 for his role in the Bali blasts that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.
The Supreme Court upheld the sentence on appeal later in the year.
The clemency plea was lodged at the Denpasar District Court in Bali and would be forwarded to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"The clemency letter was received from Semarang Prison [where Sarjiyo has been detained] on Jan. 25," said Posma P Nainggolan, a court spokesman, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Sarjiyo requested a reduction in his sentence from life imprisonment to temporary imprisonment, according to the plea.
At the reading of their verdict, judges said Sarjiyo not only gave his consent to the plan to bomb the two nightclubs full of young revelers, but also agreed to take responsibility for mixing the chemical substances and putting the explosive devices into the bombs.
