Local police in Denpasar, Bali, handed over the dossier of a 34-year-old Iranian who was caught at Bali airport allegedly smuggling crystal methamphetamine.

I Gusti Gede Putu, a state prosecutor, said the suspect could face the death penalty for violating the anti-narcotics law.

“We will hand the dossier to the district court for trial soon,” he said

The suspect, identified as Shahbazi Saeid, arrived at Ngurah Rai Airport in December, flying from Doha in Qatar to Denpasar via Kuala Lumpur onboard a Qatar Airways flight.

The Iranian national was found to have attempted to smuggle the drugs by swallowing capsules of crystal methamphetamine, totaling around 162.13 grams.

Weeks ago, seven Iranians were caught on arrival in Bali allegedly smuggling 4.5 kilograms of crystal meth, which they too had ingested.
