Govt raises cigarette excise target to Rp 57.28t

The government has increased its target of revenue from tobacco excise to Rp 57.28 trillion (US$16.6 million) this year, with realization expected to reach 106 percent.

Nur Rusydi, head of the tobacco products section at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, told a discussion Wednesday the government had exceeded its target of tobacco excise revenue in the past few years

“It shows the potential revenue from smokers remains high,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

The government raised Rp 55.38 trillion in cigarette excise in 2009, surpassing its initial target of 54.54 trillion.

The directorate missed the mark in 2006, but has since then exceeded its set target.
