PPP, PKS and Golkar find possible state losses in Bank Century case

Three parties in coalition with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party say their investigations have unraveled indications of crime and corruption surrounding the Bank Century bailout.

The coalition partners are the United Development Party (PPP), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Golkar Party.

"After conducting cross-checks, we conclude that there are a lot of irregularities and systematic manipulation of the bailout data," PPP spokesman Ahmad Yani told a plenary meeting of the House of Representatives’ inquiry committee on the bailout on Wednesday.

"Therefore, we recommend the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the police intensify their investigation into the case."

PKS spokesman Andi Rahmat said that, besides indications of state losses, there were signs of money laundering and transactions that could be related to drug trafficking.

Golkar spokesman Bambang Soesatyo said that his party found indications of a conspiracy between Bank Century management and a number of people benefiting from the bailout disbursement.

The bailout is considered controversial as it increased to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), ten times its original estimate.
