JAKARTA: More than half of the Supreme Court justice candidates have undergone fit-and-proper tests conducted by the House of Representatives, but none stood out, a legislator says.

On Wednesday, members of the House Commission III on law and human rights conducted the second fit-and-proper test session. Six candidates were questioned this round, leaving eight to be tested on Thursday and Friday.

Of the 12 candidates tested so far, only three were given scores of between six and seven at best on a scale from one to 10, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker Bukhori Yusuf said Wednesday.

"My scores for the other nine were below five," he said. "Do we really want to settle with a seven as the best?"

The six candidates tested Wednesday were Basuki Rekso Widodo, Nommy HT Siahaan, Brig. Gen. Burhan Dahlan, Abdul Wahid Oscar, Achman Yamanie, and Purnamawati.

Burhan, the only candidate with a military background, pledged he would make disciplinary rules for judges stricter.

"I would publicize the names and origins of any judges nationwide who were found violating the judiciary code of conduct," he said.

Burhan is currently the chairman of Jakarta Military High Court. - JP
