Public Order Agency regulates Menteng vendors

JAKARTA: Central Jakarta Public Order Agency officials mobilized 20 officers to regulate street vendors in the Menteng area includ-ing at Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Gondangdia and Jl. Teluk Betung on Thursday.

Beritajakarta.com reported the action went quite well and the officers only confiscated three carts, while others were seen escaping the location beforehand.

The move drew criticisms from vendors who said this was not enforced thoroughly in all city areas.

"Why is it the enforcers do not organize street vendors on Jl. Sumbawa which is not far from here?" protested Warja, a cigarette vendor whose cart was confiscated by the agents.

Head of the Central Jakarta Public Order Agency forces Idris Priyatna said that was a routine order and suspected the plan might have leaked to some vendors so that some of them escaped. - JP
