CIREBON: Humanists and artists have reiterated their call for former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid to be awarded a national hero title.
"It would be wise of the government to respond positively to our call," Dadang Kusnandar, coordinator of the Ring for Culture Dialogue (LDK), said Friday.
Dadang said the official recognition of Gus Dur, who was also a former Nahdhatul Ulama chairman, had also come from ulemas, academics and municipality officials.
Gus Dur died on Dec. 30 last year in Jakarta and was buried in Jombang, East Java, the following day. - JP
