Golkar members tell Yudhoyono
not to mess with them

The Golkar Party says that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should behave and not use any means necessary to protect his aides deemed responsible in the Bank Century bailout case.

Bambang Soesatyo, a Golkar member of the House of Representatives’ bailout inquiry committee, said the President's men had recently conducted a number of political maneuvers that could ruin the committee's independence.

"Political lobbying, the threatening of a reshuffle in the Cabinet, and hunting down violators of tax regulations can be interpreted as methods to cover up the mistakes done by the President's aides," he told reporters in Jakarta on Monday.

Separately, one of Golkar’s central board chairmen, Priyo Budi Santoso, also a House deputy speaker, said his party would maintain its preliminary judgment on the case.

"We are going to announce the names of the people responsible for the case," he said.

In its preliminary judgment, Golkar deemed the bailout riddled with corruption and law violations.
